Exhibition 2 / 5

A voice of Danish history

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Leonora Christina’s birth at Frederiksborg, the special exhibition Leonora Christina 400 years – a voice of Danish history focuses on the life and destiny of the king’s daughter.

Through portraits, the exhibition follows her from her early childhood as the daughter of King Christian IV, through her marriage to the Steward of the Realm Corfitz Ulfeldt, their treason, and her subsequent imprisonment in Blåtårn (the Blue Tower). Among the highlights of the exhibition is the original manuscript of Leonora Christina’s autobiographical work Jammers Minde (A Memory of Lament).

“In the exhibition, we let a female voice of Danish history be expressed and give the present the opportunity to meet one of the prominent figures of the past, with the self-promotion and condemnation that surrounds her person and legacy.”
Mette Skougaard, Museum Director.
