Summer Holiday with Myths and Creatures (for families)

28/06 2025 - 10/08 2025
Seasonal Activity 1 / 2

Frederiksborg is full of quirky details just waiting to be discovered

During the Danish school summer holidays, children and their families are invited to explore the myths and creatures hiding in ceilings and sculptures around the castle.

Join the Castle Hunt for Myths and Creatures!

Join us every day for a guided adventure through the castle’s many wonders. We’ll spot dragon heads and fish among thousands of tiny details in the Great Hall ceiling. We’ll meet creatures temporarily exhibited as well as those who have been at the castle for centuries. You’ll hear the dramatic story of the goddess Gefion, who ploughs the land with superhuman strength—right above us in the ceiling. And we’ll end with the gods of antiquity: Hercules, Venus, and Saturn – the latter being the one who devoured his own children.

Along the way, we’ll lie down, use our bodies to shape new creatures, touch the sandstone sculptures, and travel back and forth in time as we open our eyes to Frederiksborg’s abundance of mythical beings and magical figures.
Bring the whole family and experience the castle and museum through the eyes of Frederiksborg’s own guides. This journey into myths and creatures offers a new way to explore Frederiksborg. Afterwards, you’re free to continue on your own or take part in a creative activity.

When: 10.30 AM (in Danish) or 11.30 AM (in English)

Create gentle wild things

In the Inner Courtyard, you can craft your own gentle – or perhaps wild – creature, inspired by the myths and figures of Frederiksborg. We use branches from the castle gardens together with yarn and fabric. Listen to the bells in the castle tower and the roar of the Neptune Fountain in the Outer Courtyard as you enjoy a creative break in the shade.

Explore on your own

Keep an eye out for the Fantastic Frederiksborg for Children signs as you explore the castle independently. Older children might enjoy the museum’s audio guides. Don’t forget to visit the old wine cellar and the lapidarium, where classical gods await. Tickets are valid all day – so feel free to take a break in the castle gardens or at the nearby playground before continuing your adventure.
